(Los Angeles – April 2009) On the heels of its highly successful inaugural exhibition with Kent Twitchell last month, LOOK Gallery is back with Painting Space, an exhibition of new work by Northern California artist Adam Wolpert, May 7 to June 5, 2009.

Employing a range of techniques and motifs, Wolpert’s work reflects a lifelong engagement with nature, and in particular his home in West Sonoma County at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center (OAEC). His widely varied imagery explores the themes of cycles, relationships and balance, and investigates the subtle distinction between the representational and the abstract. For Painting Space, Wolpert will exhibit a series of plein air landscape paintings alongside a series of studio-painted abstracts.

While the styles and approach may vary between these two types of work, the media is the same—oil on linen. So too is the inspiration. Explains Wolpert: “At its core my subject is Nature and I have found that when I look deeply into the natural world I must look deeply into myself; when I describe nature in some sense I describe myself…The inner and the outer, though in some sense opposed, partake of each other, they define one another – they’re mutually dependent.”

About Adam Wolpert
A passionate artist from an early age, Wolpert explored the media of performance, ceramics, sculpture, and collage before turning seriously to painting. After a rigorous 2-year training in classical realism at Studio Cecil-Graves in Florence, Italy, where he immersed himself in the work of the great European masters, Wolpert completed an MFA at UC San Diego. He has had major gallery representation since 1988, including many solo exhibitions and group shows. His work has most recently been shown in the Sonoma County Museum of Art. Wolpert co-founded the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center in 1994 and has taught and lectured extensively throughout California. In addition to continuing his landscape and studio work, Wolpert has recently released three limited edition prints. For more information visit adamwolpert.com.
