SAMUEL FREEMAN NODS TO THE GALLERY’S ILLUSTRIOUS PAST AND FAVORABLE FUTURE WITH SUMMER GROUP DRAWING SHOW: LOVE TO PARTY

Santa Monica, CA – July, 2008: For its summer group show (opening July 19, 2008), Samuel Freeman will exhibit work selected around the question of what an artist calls a drawing. Love To Party is not your typical drawing show, however. Rather than attempting to expand the boundaries of the genre, Love To Party relies on a very simple curatorial test: each participating artist must personally consider his or her submitted work a drawing. To that end, the exhibition will feature sculpture, painting, and classical “drawings”, ranging in scale and material.

Taking its name from a Craig Kauffman piece titled “Love to Patty”, Love To Party is a nod to the gallery’s founder Patricia R. Faure and the gallery’s rich history. Like Samuel Freeman’s current artist roster, Love to Party draws together many friends of the gallery –the artists that put L.A. on the map– for exhibition alongside an exciting array of emerging artists, including:

John Altoon
Larry Bell
Billy Al Bengston
Jonothan Borofsky
Tony DeLap
Shingo Francis
Jessie Homer French
Robert Graham
Scott Grieger
Salómon Huerta
Yoshio Ikezaki

Michelle Wiener
